Capitol Hill Neighborhood Council Mayoral Candidate Forum – July 15th

The July Council Meeting held July 15th, 6:30 p.m. in Room 240 of the Utah State Capitol Building will be a Mayoral Candidate Forum.  The five candidates for Salt Lake City Mayor have committed to participate that evening.  We urge you to attend and be a part of this important process.

Questions must be submitted in advance of the Forum on July 15th.

If you’d like to submit a question for the Mayoral candidates, please send it to ericjergensen@gmail.com or post it as a comment on this website.  The questions will be reviewed by the Council Board and between eight and ten questions will be used during the Forum.  Questions should focus on issues of interest to the neighborhood and City.

There will be time to meet and chat with each individual candidate after the Forum is concluded.  Please come and invite your neighbors to attend.

Thanks!

  1. Raccoons—an invasive animal known to bring diseases and parasites—have firmly established themselves in our neighborhood. They’ve been known to forage through our gardens and come into homes through pet doors even.On my block a derelict property has become a haven and breeding place for a raccoons. Residents are left to our own devices to control them. I’d like to know what the candidates would do to deal with raccoons.

  2. It’s very important to me that religious freedom is protected in my Capitol Hill neighborhood and throughout Salt Lake City. In light of the recent Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage how do you feel about protecting the religious freedom and freedom of speech of members and missionaries of the LDS Church and the members and missionaries of other faiths in our area and the rest of Salt Lake City to continue to proselytize their messages even if it includes inviting members of the LGBT community to forsake that lifestyle? What will you do to protect freedom of religion including freedom of speech?
