BOARD ELECTIONS – 2014
Elections will be held during this month’s Council Meeting on
Wednesday, November 20, 2014, 6:30 – 8:00 PM.
Only residents of Capitol Hill Neighborhoods, with proper ID or other verification that indicates a Capitol Hill area address, will be eligible to vote. All eligible residents will vote on all positions, not just those who may represent their neighborhood. Voting will be by secret ballot.
Thank you to those who have applied for Board positions for 2014.
Kimball Neighborhood: 2 seats (terms end 2015)
Ensign Neighborhood: 2 seats (terms end 2015)
West Capitol Neighborhood: 2 seats (terms end 2014)
Desoto Neighborhood: 1 seat (term ends 2014)
Elections results will be announced during the Council meeting.
The new board members will join the current board at the regularly scheduled Board Meeting on December 2, 2014 to elect Council and Board Officers for 2014.
SALT LAKE CITY — The annual Halloween party hosted by the Salt Lake City Police and Fire Departments will be bigger and better this year, with festivities stretched between the plaza at the new Public Safety Building, across 300 East, and Library Square.
From 2-5:30 p.m. Thursday, October 31, the public is invited to trick-or-treat and meet police officers and firefighters. The police department will close 300 East between 400 and 500 South to accommodate the free party, which will include candy and games from the following partners:

- Volunteer Corps
- Patrol Officers
- Photos with Chief Chris Burbank
- Ladder trucks
- Pumpkin drop
- Photos with Chief Kurt Cook
- Police Mutual Aid Association
- Salt Lake Police Association
- City Library
- The Shops at Library Square
- The Leonardo
- Salt Lake City Mayor’s Office
- Salt Lake City Council’s Office
Be sure to look for creepy crawlies with The Bug Lady, Christy Bills of the Natural History Museum of Utah; birds of prey with Earthwings; and a great deal on hot chocolate at the Cherry’s Hot Chocolate food truck.
SAFETY TIPS FROM THE SLCPD
Tips for a Safe Halloween: Carry a flashlight and travel in a group. Adults should accompany young children at all times. Never enter a stranger’s car or home. Join the Capitol Hill and Rose Park CCs on Saturday, November 9, from 8:00 – 10:00 AM to clean-up the sidewalk on the south side of the 600 North Viaduct (from 400 West to the I-15 interchange). Dress warmly, bring gloves and tools and have a good time making the sidewalk more accessible for students and other pedestrians. UDOT will provide support. Meet at the foot of the ramp at 400 West 600 North.
Hot drinks and food will be provided after the clean-up. In case of bad weather or snow on the ground, the clean-up will be postponed until Spring 2014.
Submit a picture of your favorite decorated house or apartment to be entered into our contest. There are several ways you can submit a picture:
- On this blog
- Through an email (email@example.com), or
- by printing the pic and giving it to any Council Board member.
The deadline for the contest is midnight, Monday, December 4.
Michael Measom (current director overseeing elections this year) and the entire CHNC Board of Directors encourage all interested parties to apply for the board positions that are open for 2014.
There are seven positions open on the Capitol Hill Neighborhood Council Board of Directors for 2014. The open positions are for both 1 year and 2 year terms. Each position will be voted on at the November Council meeting (Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at 6:30 PM) where all residents can vote for the Council’s Board of Directors.

The qualifications for a CHNC Board member are: 1) you must be a member of the Council (residents, business owners, or property owners who own property in our area) and, 2) you must be at least 18 years of age. The application and attachments (resume or vita) are for identification purposes and to verify Council membership as defined above.

Kimball Neighborhood – two (2) 2-year terms. Terms end 12-31-2015
DeSoto/Cortez Neighborhood – one (1) 2-year term. Term ends 12-31-2015
Ensign Neighborhood – two (2) 2-year terms. Terms end 12-31-2015

These seven new directors will join the current board of 10 for a 17 member Board for 2014. In the board’s first meeting after the elections in November, the board will elect the Council’s officers for 2014 (Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and Treasurer).
