Salt Lake City is securing its position as a global aviation hub by building a brand-new airport that will serve and grow with the region for decades to come. The New SLC Airport will be a state-of-the-art facility when completed and will be the first new hub airport built in the 21st Century.
The New SLC Airport is being built in two phases with the first phase—scheduled to open on September 15, 2020—to include one large central terminal and two linear concourses connected by a passenger tunnel. An elevated roadway, a 3,600-stall parking garage and the gateway center — home to rental cars and select airline ticket counters—will also enhance the passenger experience.
Most of the work today is taking place on the interior. The terrazzo flooring is being polished throughout the terminal and South Concourse-West, while carpet is being laid in the gate hold areas. Elevators, escalators and moving sidewalks were installed early on, and there are restrooms that have been completed. Testing of the baggage delivery systems is already underway to ensure all systems are operational on opening day.
Airport concessions are in the final stages of planning and design and are getting ready to build out their new locations. The shops and restaurants for the first phase of The New SLC were announced earlier this year. Popular food and beverage options like Cafe Rio, Market Street Grill, Smashburger and Squatters are returning along with new concepts, such as Fillings & Emulsions, Granatos, Pago, Panera Bread, Silver Diner and Shake Shack. All restaurants will offer breakfast, lunch and dinner menus. A welcome dining option pre security on the second level will house Blue Lemon.
A mix of local, regional and national retail stores will add to the mix, including new brands to SLC Airport such as Coach, Frye, King’s English, Hip & Humble and MAC. In addition, shops currently located in the airport are part of the mix, such as Dufry Duty Free, No Boundaries and Utah!
All the concessions – both retail and food & beverage – will offer street pricing, which means passengers will pay the same price at store locations outside of the airport.
