Columbus Street and 400 N. Signal Installation Project

What? Installation of a new traffic signal and targeted improvements to pedestrian ramps and sidewalks 
Where? Columbus Street (SR-186) and 400 N. in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Salt Lake City
Why? This new signal will improve pedestrian safety and mobility
When? Construction of the new signal will begin on Monday, August 3 and is scheduled to be operational in early October

What to Expect During Construction:

  • Work occurring Monday-Friday between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm
  • Increased dust and noise during active construction
  • Some pedestrian access detours, please follow posted signage
  • Traffic lanes will remain open during the morning and evening commute hours
    • Some intermittent lane closures may be necessary to accommodate work on the sidewalks and pedestrian ramps
    • To install the overhanging signal arms and signal heads, the intersection will be closed during off-peak hours for a few days in late September or early October 
  • A separate project, to widen the Capitol entrance will also be underway in the same timeframe (this is not a UDOT project, but the two teams are in coordination to minimize traffic impacts)

Columbus Street and 400 N. Intersection Closure

On Sunday, September 13, the intersection of Columbus Street and 400 North will be closed to traffic from 7 am to 12 pm for another area project. This intersection closure is not associated with the UDOT Columbus Street and 400 North Signal Installation Project.
